What is a Subluxation?

Subluxation is the alteration of the bones, muscles, and nerves of the spine which causes compression, tension, irritation and damage to the Nerve System. This disturbs the Nerve System and causes the organs and muscles of the body to malfunction and heal poorly. The Nerve System is made up of the Brain, Spinal Cord, and Spinal Nerves. Your body's wisdom coordinates all function and healing in the human body through the Nerve System.

What causes subluxation? Subluxations are caused by a lifetime of stress and trauma. Any stress that your body cannot deal with at a point in time may produce spinal subluxation. Physical, chemical, mental, or emotional changes in your environment create stress. Slips, falls, auto accidents, sports injuries, poor posture, bad sleeping habits, stress at work, family stress, marital stress, abuse, chemical exposure, medications, processed foods, environmental toxins or even childhood mishaps and the birth process itself, can cause the spinal bones and/or spinal cord to move out of normal positioning.

Excessive changes in the cord may produce measurable changes in motor, sensory and autonomic function. These are accentuated whenever the cord is stretched, and may be reversed, and the symptoms relieved, if stretching can be eliminated and the affected tissues are kept relaxed. -Alf Breig, Neurosurgeon

More about subluxation: All Subluxations are not created equal, states Dr. Donald Epstein, the developer of NETWORK SPINAL ANALYSIS. Spinal Subluxations may be caused by information overload. Different types of stress may result in different types of Subluxations. NETWORK SPINAL ANALYSIS classifies Subluxations into two types:

1. Structural Subluxations are a compression, or squeezing of the nerve as it passes through the opening between the vertebrae. It is commonly called a pinched nerve. This is often the result of a mechanical or physical stress from which the body could not recover.

2. Facilitated Subluxation are elongations or twisting of the spinal cord and associated nervous tissue. This is most likely associated with emotional, mental, or chemical stress from which the body-mind could not recover. Nerve fibers in the cord or nerve roots may be overstretched. The most significant consequence of overstretching nerve fibers is impairment of their conductivity. -Alf Breig, Neurosurgeon

Your brain must assess the situation and react to it. We have a capacity to respond to stress as a part of normal, everyday life. However, when we exceed our capacity, we must either change for the better and grow, or we may express symptoms and disease. Symptoms are the body's warning signals that something has been malfunctioning for some time and has needed our attention. In most cases, SUBLUXATION is present without symptoms or warning. Usually, SUBLUXATION has existed for many years by the time a symptom arrives. The purpose of a spinal evaluation at at Gateway Chiropractic & Wellness Center., is to find if there is a loss of spinal and neural integrity disturbing your Central Nerve System causing malfunction.

IF WE FIND A LOSS OF SPINAL AND NEURAL INTEGRITY, ABNORMAL POSITION OF THE SPINE OR SUBLUXATION DURING YOUR EXAM, OR NERVE TESTS, WE CAN HELP YOU. WITH ALIGNMENT, YOU ARE AT YOUR MOST PRODUCTIVE, DYNAMIC, CREATIVE LEVEL OF PERFORMANCE. THINK GLOBALLY, ACT LOCALLY.
